Adelaide to Port Pirie.

After Adelaide we headed to Port Pirie with a small visit to Wallaroo on the way.

We dropped in for a night to have a look at Wallaroo after Adelaide. A very pretty town on the water, the Jetty is excellent for fishing from and the water is crystal clear, perfect for diving or snorkeling. We chose to just stay the night at the overnight rest area but there is a caravan park and plenty of other accommodation in the town if you wanted to stay longer.

After Wallaroo we took a short hop up to Port Pirie and spent a few days looking around the area. We stayed at the CMCA campground which is very centrally located right behind the Coles and Kmart building or if you don't mind a walk it's only a 10 or so minute walk into town.

Campsites were only $15 a night, with water and a dump point available and a communal firepit/gathering area. The camp is managed by a roster of volunteers and we had the privilege of meeting Chris and Chris who were very friendly and went out of their way to make sure everyone was welcome. Once a week they headed over to the football club for a meal and invited anyone in camp to join them. On our last night in town they tossed some sausages on the BBQ and the campers all brought in some salads to share for a group meal around the firepit which was a lot of fun.

We spent three days in the area and aside from stocking up for the trip into the Flinders, the most interesting part of town was the gorgeous old railway station, unfortunately we only saw the outside of the building due to a renovation project.

We took a day to geocache in a bit of a loop out of Port Pirie, checked out Weeroona Island which is in the distance here. Gorgeous spot with some nice walks along the water. Awesome place to stop off for lunch, we did check the property prices in the area and given how close it is to Port Pirie would make a great primary residence or a weekender out of Adelaide. In general the area is worth a visit for a couple of days using Port Pirie as a base and heading out from there to look about. There is plenty for the history buffs to check out and the scenery is gorgeous.
